Independence Day

I’m getting excited when ever India (or any other country) celebrates Independence day because i do care about individual freedom, freedom of thoughts and freedom of everything. I started writing this blog with in my mind to compare India 1947 to India 2010. But I'm not going to do it because India grown mammoth levels in many fronts, comparing with olden times gives us frisson and repletion. When my generation(current leading generation) were kids, studying in school we didn’t imagined this much growth, that giving me nervous about how we(current generation) going to handle this unexpected or unprepared growth of India.

Indian constitution was designed to bring every one in to main stream, in other words equality and education to all and social justice, very basic socialism point of view. As far i know, the spirit of Indian constitution is not supported or instrumented for India’s growth which we are enjoying last decade. Now we need to connect the dots, that is one side an ignorant generation and other side poorly written constitution(in terms of growth). Due to this disconnect, India is facing a big time probity issue now.It is not a big issue, first of all, we need to point out, what are the impacts and reasoning of this disconnect.

Rich is getting richer and poor is getting poorer
This is global phenomena but severity of India's domain is unacceptable level. The fundamental issue, as always we don't know how to transform success of one place to other. For example, Mumbai was considered business vibrant  city even before current growth but we don't know how-to implement those success to other parts of India in a big bang scalable model. Now this generation also just following the old style model of "static localized growth". City is the only one have to grow all others are considered second class places, the mentality will backfire us sooner than later.

Lack of social thinking
As i said, we were raised to get to find and fill up food for me and my family. I don't think it was not a wrong thought process because the state of India was like that. Feeding a large family with 3 times (some) quality food and other emergency expenses are very tough. But now situation changed, we should think about others and help others. Actually when ever i say help others, people thinks that we have to send money to poor people but my point is, giving money is not a big help. What we need is educate them about their rights, right to ask information, right to ask education, right to ask government/other NGO,. All the basic rights and how-to are really important than giving them some money which eventually spend for some wrong reasons also. This generation should change their thought process of living in the old post British India days to the current new India.

Less Emotional More Logical
Since we saw the two faces of India and as i mentioned in first para, we tend to replete with our success. We try to become emotional and stop thinking about future growth. But just come out of your city or towns and visit some places just 100KM outside of your city, you can realize that how small we are and we are just starting this journey of  growth and still a long way to go. Never rest and never think that we are done, we are still $1 trillion economy.

Happy Independence Day.

BMW Theory

A long time ago, during a fall month, a co-worker of mine parked his new 7-series BMW car under a maple tree. While we working his car made noise due to fallen leaves from the tree. It was annoying and my friend had go out several times to remove the leaves. The theory of BMW designer is, the 7-series had expensive paint coating since some bulk of fallen leaves may damage the paint coating, hence they made the alarm system very powerful and sensitive. This is exactly BMW's model, which is think ahead and set up early alarm systems.

During my school days, India we had a 'assessment system' which was partially controlled by professors who taught us the subject. The system is, 50% of assessment completely determined by professors based on several factors, open ended. Out of 100,one have to write theory for 50 marks and other 50 would be determined by professor and in order to get pass, one have to score 45. So most of students have to please professors to get good marks, literally professors were god for them. If they able to convince professors, they literally scored pass mark and theory is just for formalities. As expected, everyone hates this, but no one can ask any questions, some students even worked for professors "other means" to get high scores. But i used to musing this system, why our educators promoted this model, why we are following such a stupid model, but the answers were fascinating, i was literally cried after cracked this model. Here are my finding when i was in college.
  • Education system in Indian completely helping students, parents and potential employers an early alarm systems rather than concrete implementation of subjects.
  • If a student is unable to get high marks from his/her professors but scores high in other exams, then he/she may be a showing 'leadership' skills. He/she bold in front of authority and he/she ask questions and challenge the status quo.Great for leadership,self-employment and driving force.
  • If a student scores both low then he/she had some attitude as well as IQ issues.
  • If both high then she/he more likely going to work for a company long time, excellent worker class.

The definition of " Democracy"

Almost all of my Indian friends and relatives and parents are always shows me a kind of frustration about India, when ever we are in talk about our country. The lists are

1. Inadequate infrastructure.
2. Unbearable Bureaucracy.
3. Corrupted politicians.
4. Reservation
5. Arranged marriage
6. Arrogant government employees and able to form teams to protest against government for their own salary hike.
7. Social economy structure.
8. Caste system.
9. Unmovable justice system.

and the list goes on and on. But everybody moving their status from poor to middle class and middle class to rich and so on. I agree with most of it, that is, yes we have poor infrastructure, mainly because of people like us, we used our "democracy" process to stop government's planning on infrastructure developments. We overload our justice system, we misused social system as a result we get into prolong reservation system. If we start deeply thinking, we people created all the mess and expecting elected officials to clear all mess. But as usual i used to take all vent offs from my friends and later used it to cool off myself by musing all those things. I can tell one thing is, we all forgetting the meaning of patience and everyone want a private island with private jet, that is, a big issue with my Indian brothers and sisters.

We have to understand that India got independence with 180+ nations after world war II, but India is only one still standing as true democracy[Thanks to Dinamani.com for the info]. One of true democracy i can point out is, the recent national poll, economists and think tanks wants same Congress to continue, Indian people able to do it so India intensified it's developments. Our democracy has a true meaning and who ever you are, what power you have but people has power to make you king at same time make you zero. It is People's Government.

Indian Election 2009 - Results

After i would say 2 decades, this is the clear sweep by a single coalition and Congress led Untied Progress Alliance (UPA) going to form government with no support from anti-globalization parties mainly Indian communists. This election was main and crucial to Indian economy, because we need a continuous, stable, globalization/progressive minded government to solidify the modern economical foundation. Now Indian people spoke the same language from Kashmir to Kanyakumari to give a clear and solid mandate to current ruling coalition UPA to continue their job mainly to improve infrastructure, abolish poverty for next 5 years.

The exit polls suggested that UPA or NDA wouldn't get simple majority and they need support from leftist parties, who are very narrow minded and anti-globalization. But real results went other way. We need a clear exit poll strategy, it is failing consistently for all over the world's election outcome. All over India vote counting started and results were announced with in 3-4 hours because now Indian election commission using electronic voting machine, early days the outcome of election took days.

Here are some highlights from India's Election 2009

1. Youth vote was the clear differentiator for this election, they want a stable government hence they choose UPA. It is clear indication that India's political power shifting from aged generation to younger generation.

2. No one can change democracy election outcome, even though here and there people voting based on caste, community and for money, the final outcome will be same from all over country.

3. 60%-65% people cast their vote for this election, which is not bad as per current democracy standard but everybody should vote and mainly urban people ditch their voting rights for various reason including lost hope with political parties and politicians. Political parties have to note this and work hard to win the trust again.

4. Glamorization and movie star connection to politics is old style. Nowadays one can't win people based on star value and attraction. For example, this time a mega movie star from state of Andhra Pradesh failed badly.

5. Political parties have to change their stance on several issues, if they are out of sync with people's day-by-day issues, future issues they will be kicked out. For example, a leading politician fighting hard for Sri Lanka's issue lost this election because he/his party didn't solve any issues for their constituencies. They forgot that Sri Lanka is out of India's map and the issue will be resolved by Indian central government, UN and other major country leaders.

Indian Election 2009

Again it is time for massive Indian election. We love elections because this is the time when money comes out from politicians. Poor and poorest people get good food and some money and some new cloths at this election time. Indian election is a largest democracy process in this world. There are 700 million eligible voters with 800K polling stations. Consistently 60% of people cast their ballets to select a majority party to form next government. From 1950 to 1990, Congress was the monopoly to rule India but now we have 150 plus major and regional parties to contesting in election and a team of political parties form the government. One of advantage is, we have a representation of all regional and state in Indian central government but a major drawback is building consensus among diversified political parties is huge and time consuming process.

During this election, i found that Indian politicians are at trouble because of inflammatory talks. Election Commission and local authorities are too harsh to punish this behavior. Actually i know some of my Indian friends, they feel offended if i offer a beer when they visited my home, so the point is, we are very sensitive on many matters hence if we start harassing people for sensitive talks at political meeting, we will not reach the destiny. The duty of Election Commission is to contact the election NOT imposing rules.

Actually political meeting at India is big deal, because politicians should change the context quickly. In the state of Kerala one should not speak about capitalism because most of them are communists, in state of Tamil Nadu one should not speak about Hinduism because most of them are non-believers, in state of Bihar one should speak about AK-47 because most of them are gun lovers. But some naïve politicians may not have the experience of, what to talk and how to polish the talk, which creates some issues, but election commission and media should not take that serious, may be a hefty fine, open apology and strict warning is enough for first time. The meeting is the connecting point between politicians and their followers hence too many restrictions creates some negatives at long run, let them talk freely. The restriction creates fear, fear creates controlled behavior, and controlled behavior hides original personality, hence we might end up selecting a wrong person to represent us.

A country of 1 Billion Doctors

Everyone has one or more native knowledge, this native knowledge is formed based on place/country we live. For example, Americans has native knowledge about cars. Canadians has native knowledge about ice hockey and so on. Like wise we Indians has native knowledge of medicines, this could be because before Brits came to our country, we were mostly self medicated or mom & pop traditional medicines.  Any ways in the field of medicine, we all have suggestions/advice to everybody for anything, anytime. For example, if some one says “i’m having headache” to 10 people, he/she will get 10 different opinions with 10 different solutions. Better not to talk about one’s own issues publically in India. Since we are all have some native knowledge about medicine with combination of emotional and sentimental, we all want to go see a patient who is either ICU or recovery room to express our opinions. This has to be stopped and crowed ICU and rooms are not good for patients and their loved ones. Here are the stories about my observation at Indian hospitals.

Terror in ICU: A relative or friend in ICU means they are half dead in India. Most of the ICU cases are two wheeler’s (motor cycle, scooter etc) accidents, young guys, who are not wearing helmet hence heavy skull injury. It was sad to be in ICU at this young age and most of them make it and our doctors are really great on that. But the tension outside ICU is unimaginable and has to be stopped. When i start take mental notes, it was early morning 5.00AM, a family of mother, dad and sister waiting outside for their beloved son/brother who met an accident, they were crying all the time, as brother’s health start stabilizing dad started console them and sister’s husband also joined and they were under control. After some time, say 9.00AM people started coming. The dad was almost invisible with in the crowd, doctors also frustrated, it was almost 100+ people came for this single case. Some of them start asking question to dad, why you took him here? Here they are not good for skull injury? He got more panic, on other side ladies started circled to start cry. The sister and mother also vanished in crowd.  One question pop-up my mind, why this people came at 9.00AM, why they didn’t come as soon as accident happened? They took their own time to visit hospital, so they are not really coming for good purpose. I went to have a coffee and one of the guys who was with the crowd also at same coffee shop and he start speaking at mobile phone that “they still keeping oxygen mask so the case won’t survive”, like he is a doctor and knows all the internal medicines/procedures.

Hats off to Doctors: It was great experience to me with our doctors at India, they are really great. What they have is 1947 outdated instruments but still they are managed to give world class treatment to their patients. I can see most of the doctors in India have dedication, hardworking and multi taskers. The whole medical industry revolving because of quality of our doctors. I think curriculum is the main one to produce this much quality doctors.

Fees:  We have quality doctors and everything but medical affordability in India is really tough. I think more than 95% of Indian people can’t get quality treatment like their rich counterpart. The medical fees are very expensive in terms of average Indian’s earning power. I think most of the time there was no standard fees determination also. A blood test costs Rs 360.00 one day, very next day it can be Rs 460.00. I have no idea why this double standard. Most of the cases i met there were poor people, they want to some how afford this quality so that their beloved one once again talk and walk but the price they are paying for this is really sad, they almost sold all of their land, all gold, life saving and everything they own under sun. After treatment they have to start their life from scratch. A decease in India changed one’s life completely.

Indian government should close all government aided hospitals and give subside to this private well managed hospitals or increase the government aided hospital’s quality. The politicians and educated people in India just forgetting their roots and becoming more selfish, they have to carry this baggage sooner rather than later.

MUMBAI attacked again and again...

Bunch of cowards again carried guns and bombs, this time for a change, they came from sea route persumably from Karachi. This was very terrible situation and our police, army unable to stop this because of hostage issue. I believe this is something planned for years and each move was well co-ordinated. This kind of co-ordination can not be done by local groups, this is definitely a foreign group. This cowards don't like India's growth of last 8-10 years and India-Pakistan's improved relationship. I hope all this cowards will be killed and Mumbai will return normal soon.

Anti Brahminism and Tamils

I want to write about it a long time ago, but decided not to, because now in this advanced progressive growth of India and Tamil Nadu, anti-Brahminism is a myth. But there is something we have to write/talk for researching and shocked to know that still there is some anti- Brahmanism going on conjunction with Sri Lanka issue and what happened in Chennai law college (my wife cried for 5 minutes after seeing video from you tube please don't see unless absolute necessary, it was really brutal, no pun intended), it is clear that still there are lot of caste feeling in Tamil Nadu. As my dad always say, don’t talk the following with your fellow country (wo) man

A) About Reservation (affirmation action in India) with anybody

B) About Periyar with Brahmins

C) About Brahmins with atheists

D) About money with anybody (causes belly fire)

E) About sex with anybody (piss/shit in public place is okay but not kiss in my country ask Richard Gere),

F) About minority with majority

G) About majority with minority

H) About south with north

I) About north with south

J) About Tamil in Karnataka

K) About Kanada in Tamil Nadu

L) About north in west (this is something new)

M) About west in north

N) About Hindi with Tamils

O) About Tamils with Hindi

P)  About Muslim with right wing RSS

Q) About RSS with Muslim

R) About Christians with VHP

S) About VHP with Christians

I can go up to Z and alpha, beta etc…. so we can happily talk about food, more food, lot of gossip, more cinema and some cricket that’s all, but my dad is from old school, always want to keep “all happy all time”. But we have to express our opinions in some where, just to unclog our brain so that we can explore more and more.

I may not point to any reference to substantiate my opinion, because all are my personal opinions and unbiased and some generalization, based on my experience with Brahmins, non-Brahmins, Atheist, Believer, Suppressed Peoples, Backward, most Backward, Forward, Other Backward, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists.

Brahmins contributed a lot for Tamils and Tamil Nadu. I can not imagine Tamil Nadu with out Brahmins. In my opinion, Tamil Nadu with out Brahmins is equal to Bihar (very under developed, see law college video) state in Indian union. Education and Hindu religion are the main for Tamil Brahmins, there contribution to Indian Army also worth to note it here. They helped most of Tamil people to understand Hinduism, work ethics, hygiene lifestyle etc. They uplifted Tamil society from downward sprawl to upward. Now most of the companies come to Chennai (Tamil Nadu’s capital) to start business because of Chennai’ ties work ethics and hard working that is mainly because of Tamil Brahmin’s impact. With out Brahmin’s mantra, we can not marry, can not carry dead body to final resting place, can not enter into new home, can not open new business and nothing can be done with out the presence of Brahmin in Tamil Nadu. We will not and should not forget their contribution towards Tamils. At same time, all castes in Tamil Nadu contributed their own share otherwise we won’t be this advanced in all areas.

But there are some negative aspects of Brahminism are, they are very conservative, domination and fragile. Due to conservative nature of them, they never ever completely assimilate with main Tamil stream. Different food habit, even different hairstyle, Different Tamil slang, Different lifestyle, Different dressing and segregated themselves from main society, they prefer to live near to temples. The main connection point for Brahmins and non-Brahmins is temple, that’s all, after that complete isolation. They created so many illogical customs with in Tamil society. I can list all illogical here, but it required 100 pages.  The most dislikes are, separating time into three parts and one should not do good things on some particular time slot, one should not travel some direction on some days, three persons can’t go to complete a task, if cat crosses on one’s way, they have to return home immediately, one can’t sleep with head pointing to north direction, etc…etc...

Anti Brahmanism was started in Tamil Nadu a long ago, to be specific when Erode Venkata Ramasami Naicker (EVR aka Periyar) went to Kasi in 1904. He witnessed immoral activities of Hinduism in holy city of Hindus.  He got frustrated with Hinduism and its inequality practice. The specific incident is, in Kasi food was served only to Brahmins, and identity is a thread running thru Brahmin’s body crossly, EVR wore a false thread intentionally and entered into line to get food but food servant found EVR is a non-Brahmin based on his moustache. So food servant pushed him down and refuses to serve food, after some time remaining food was wasted and served to dog. Irony is the food service place (choultry) was built by a non Brahmin from Tamil Nadu. [Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Periyar]

Periyar actively involved with Anti Brahminism in Tamil Nadu side by side with his main Indian independence movement. I don’t want to go to details about how he did it but it affected each and every single person’s mind in Tamil Nadu. People who born before 1975s may be affected by “brhaminophobia” or “periyarophobia” depend on which side they born, because of Periyar and unlimited propaganda by his followers, this phobia was even affected in neighboring states as far as Orissa and other religion also.

The youngest generation completely out of this and they even don’t know who is Periyar and what is Brahmins means to them, now Brahmins living like any body else in Tamil Nadu. Due to economical changes Brahmins came out of segregated places and living with in society and all are happy. We are living in a global village and all are connected with digital cells, and people are moving very fast, endless opportunities, no room for hate in this world. But what ever happened in Chennai Law College makes me think that we are traveling backwards again.

Chandrayaan-I Mission

Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) scientific community going to achieve a remarkable event on this Wednesday. India going to send an unmanned spacecraft (lunar exploration) Chandrayaan-I mission to moon. Indian flag will be placed in Moon, only US, Russia, and Japan flags were placed so far in moon. This spacecraft going to carry six Indian instruments and 6 other countries (including 2 NASA's) instruments.

We know that it is very hard to achieve something in state owned organization like ISRO. It is time to venerate our ISRO engineers.

India – Happy Independence Day

Today is our 61st Independence Day. India is getting mature and mature, still a long way to go to achieve developed country status. A long ago, a friend of mine, argued with me that why India is one country, it should be European Union format. 28 states are mainly based on languages and different cultures and we can’t be in a single umbrella. I also prematurely nod to that argument. I just compared European Union success and thought that was a great idea. But both me and him are missed an important history of our country and geography dependence on each one. We were separated by tens of thousands kingdoms before British conquered us. This kingdoms are heavily depends on each other for resources, mainly foods. Indian food habit is not same as western. Even we are depending on each other for small food grains.

For example, Chera kingdom depends on Travancore kingdom for coconuts and Travancore kingdom depends on Martha for onions. In other words, none of the kingdoms were fully natural resource self sufficient, not only foods, all others also. Andhra is producing more rice than any other state, but lacking a lot of other commodities. Punjab is producing more wheat than any others, but lacking a lot on others. Assam is producing more oil than any others but no food produce at all. If we draw a dependence map, we can realize that we should be in one country, our dependence on each other can't be solved by import/export. The food is basic, that’s why I emphasize here, for all other natural resource also we are depend on each other.

We are the only one can lead other countries to, how to enjoy freedom, unity even within difference cultures and languages, that ultimately leads to ONE WORLD ONE HUMAN.

Happy Republic Day.

Tomorrow India going to celebrate 59th republic day with much enthusiasm all over the country and especially in the capital, New Delhi.

Still India is youth and has to grow a lot to compete with other developed nation in this world. We grew a lot after 1991, after Manmohan Singh opened Indian market to all. Our main goal is to grow in all sector and eliminate poverty completely. After 2000, India is growing multi-folded with 8-9% GDP growth year over year. I was in Bangalore in 1998 and went back again in 2007, and I couldn't believe the amount of growth of this city. All main cities like Chennai, Hyderabad,Pune and Calcutta also growing the same rate as Bangalore. But still I witnessed a uneven growth in some places, that is mainly because of local people's and politician's unwillingness to accept progressive developments. It will take lot of time for them to change and join in modern trends.
