Slumdog Millionaire

Again and again India is not a poor country, a country which is home of millions of poor people, slowly and steadily they are becoming middle class status as we are giving free basic education and uplift their social status by providing mammoth affirmation actions. Whenever west media come to India first they want to take a photograph of cow in the middle of road, snake charmers, an elephant and slums in Mumbai or Calcutta. Now Danny Boyle joined in parade to make fame and money by glamorizing Indian slums. Why can not he take a movie about British homeless people or drug issue or about terrorism or corruption?

Almost all states in India have similar rule, that is, slum abolishment law, they built huge apartment complex for slum dwellers, some of them went to those new places and some choose to live in slum for various reasons. India is a democratic country and we can’t force them out also. Here I want to quote our former finance minister P.Chidambaram “A project as big as China’s Three Gorges Dam (which will displace millions) would take me the rest of my life in India”.

For example, Asia’s largest slum “Dharavi” in Mumbai, there slum dwellers are rich guys, their business turn over per year is $650 million, almost all own an apartment at suburban of Mumbai, and they choose to live here at slums because of proximity to main city places and joy to be in city’s center place and extra income from rented apartment. Keep in mind, each slum dwellers has tremendous support from government, local organizations, massive affirmation actions but they want to live in slums.

India is a vast and majestic country, one should be very carful about showing India’s image to outside world. We are spending money, resource and time to abolish poverty from India, by even providing controversial affirmation actions. If these movie makers exaggerate Indian poverty, people start questioning about those and create chaos within community, even it may derail our progressive development to abolish poverty. Movie maker’s can help us by providing some suggestions to eliminate poverty, not to make money out of poverty. IT IS NOT FUN. We are 1 billion in population and slowly, steadily will win the race. Can anyone point any country in this world 100% rich and no homeless and no below poverty people?

Dark Knight: This Joker is not for jokes

There are very few English movies insisted me to see one more time, Dark Knight is latest one. I can’t explain Heath Ledger’s performance on this movie. You have to watch it!!!...What a terrific and never-tried-before performance by him. It got to me think that no body can act like this other than Heath Ledger. The first time he made a pencil disappeared to plotting to blow up ferry, are excellent and unforgettable.

Other than joker character, this is usual Batmen movie. I never watched previous Batmen movies. Movie is very interesting and Heath Ledger, sorry to miss a legend like him. I got excited to see my daily roaming places from Chicago downtown also.

Last dialogue from joker is "this is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object". I had no idea why he wants a phone when he locked up in jail, but the reason is really terrific. The hospital plot also great and costume also.

A must see movie.

Chaos Theory

3 weeks back, i watched a Tamil movie “Desavadharam”, the movie was really great and everybody talked about actor Kamal Hasan’s 10 different roles. In my opinion, that was really fantastic. For me, my curiosity re-heighten from the movie is, chaos theory because the movie is based on chaos theory.

Chaos theory is “fact that the systems that the theory describes are apparently disordered, but chaos theory is really about finding the underlying order in apparently random data”. When we try to fix “hard to reproduce or complex” issues from production system, i think chaos theory is the key. I wrote my previous company’s internal blog, there i mentioned that when we try to debug a complex issue, note down all the issues/ and unsuccessful steps, which we followed to fix the issue. I think i mentioned chaos theory over there. The descriptions of issues with steps to fix are random orders but after some time if we analysis all points, we can predict what would be the real issue and solution for the issue.

Chaos theory really helpful to predict stock price future movements, future trade, weather and even our day by day activities. All we need to do is, store all data, as it appear random, after some point of time, we slowly analyse random events and thus we can easily predict what’s next. But most important point is, we have to store all relevant data. In my opinion, we need enormous data storage to analysis and predict something.

WALL-E

Fantastic movie. Pixar’s one of the greatest movie, easily going to beat all previous records. The color combination, mixing, frame rate, and final smooth touch are excellent. It is hard to believe, that this is an animated movie. Very decent sci-fi story and greater in-depth animated color are the great success for this movie.

This is Robot love story, movie starts from unlivable earth, because of over pollution, frequent dust storms and mountain of trash, where lone robot trash collector WALL-E (with his friend cockroach), just doing his job to convert all wastes into some deposable form for 700 years. All humans were evacuated from earth to space because of unlivable condition 700 years ago by various space ships.

One of the space ship called Axim, sends a probe mission (like the one NASA send to Mars) to earth, that robot is EVE (but Wall-E calls her EVA), the mission is to find life in earth.Wall-E helped her to find a life, a tiny plant inside shoe. As soon as, EVA finds it and store it inside chamber, she becomes kind of coma (actually as per program, robot’s main system goes sleep mode after the mission completes). He chased her up to Axim and fun starts from there.

This movie can be enjoyed by grown ups also ,i did !. My 4 and half years old started talking about this movie a month ago. He was not even blinking his eyes from start to end, he just enjoyed with involvement.

Weekend Movie.

I am legend :
What a great performance by Will Smith and what an interesting movie to watch. From start to end, this movie was never boring. Especially art direction and Will Smith's performance is a big plus for this movie. This movie is an adoption of 1954 novel of same name. It was very interesting to see timesquare and main New York streets without traffic and people. The director planned very well for Will Smith's solo scenes with "Sam" which is unavoidable, so that we never felt dragging on any scenes. The story is very simple, a virus outbreak causes billions of people dead and make some monster, only less than one percent of world population survive without becoming monster because they have the natural immune against this deadly virus. Will Smith played US army doctor role, trying to resolve this crisis by his own with "Dark Seekers". Very interesting movie to watch.

Weekend Movies

1. Michael Clayton :

Great Movie. This movie revolving with 3 main characters

1. Micheal Clayton (Geroge Clooney) : A gambling addict working in a well known law firm, scratching his seat for 17 years at same position, nick named as Miracle Worker.
2. Arthur Edens (Tom Wilkinson) : A mental breakdown top notch lawyer, try to cover up a big organization (U-North) from 3 Billion dollar lawsuit.
3. Karen Crowder (Tilda Swinton): A cut throat chief counsel working at U-North, her primary job is to rescue her company from the law suit.

As movie starts, I didn't understand first 2-3 scenes, after flashback started everything is clear. This story is based on 4 days happening between this 3 characters. Micheal wandering around for money to settle his unsuccessful bar business, he got an emergency call to Milwaukee to support his colleague and his long time friend Arthur's mental break down. At same time Karen found that Arthur is helping people who sued her company. After that, story becomes wild and Karen ordered to tap Arthur's phone calls, follow him and finally ordered to kill him. Micheal come into big play after Karen ordered to kill him also. Final moments of this movie is really great and twists and turns. Overall, this movie is must see for movie lovers.

2. No Country for Old men :

Excellent movie and core of this movie is, how bad this hit-mans are and the drug related crime in Texas. Javior Bardem acted as a hit-man, awesome and superb performance. No wonder why he was selected for best actor in Oscar. He just dramatize audience as well as Josh Brolin. Josh Brolin happened to found 2 million dollar suitcase from drug dealers and he wants to settle with that money. But poor guy doesn't know that it was buged. Where ever he goes, Javior followed him with sophisticated killing weapons. Finally Josh able to hide money and recovered it but murdered by Mexican gang members. But I won't agree with Javior's final murder, that is, Josh's wife. He justifying it by saying that he already given word to her husband (Josh), that too, she just came back from her mother's funeral. Tommy Lee acted as sheriff and he just can't stop any violence in this county. This movie is a flawless movie and can give 10 out 10 score.

Weekend Movies.

This weekend we watched 2 movies both of them are based on New York and crime movies. American Gangster and The Brave One.

American Gangster
I can give 8/10 to this movie. Good storyline and screenplay and most scenes were filmed very naturally and costume also modified to fit into 1960s timeline. All the locations in the film were authentic and real places in and around New York city. One of my favorite hero is Denzel Washington and he was amazing in this film, he just lived as "Frank Lucas" character. He was really acted well in the scene where he burnt down $50k coat because that was the turning point of the movie, after he wore that coat to boxing match, everybody knows that he was rich and running a gangster.

Russell Crowe is another brilliant guy also acted as equivalent to Denzel. Director handled the scenes excellently by separating them the whole movie, that is, big plus for this movie. In other hand, movie was little slowed in the middle because of unnecessary family affairs to fill up time to delay the meeting of 2 characters.

Overall I skeptic about this is a real story, I think that 10-15% is real and remaining is just imagination from director Ridley Scott. It was very hard to believe that US military cargo planes used for heroin transportation.

The Brave One
I think Jodie Foster would love to act solo nowadays. The storyline should based on her role 100%. I hate monopoly even in movies. So nothing to write about this movie. I wasted 120 Mins by watching this movie.

Taste of Knight Rider again.

It is more than 20 years after today NBC telecasted one of my favorite serial Knight Rider again. Last series was telecasted in Sri Lanka TV as soon as NBC telecasted here in USA, We took advantage of being geographically close with Sri Lanka. Knight Rider starts all Wednesday at 7.30 PM IST, we get ready to watch it by 6.30PM itself. As a kid I enjoyed the series a lot.

Now again in NBC today, it is Knight Rider 2 hour movie, this time KIIT is like Windows Vista with compare to early KIIT, which was like Windows 2.0. Integration with spy camera, image matching, solar energy fuel all are advance invention for KIIT. Today KIIT using C21 cargo plane for transportation. This time also I enjoyed the show as I did it 20 years ago as kid.

Gone Baby Gone.

Today as usual went to Blockbusters to get some movies, my wife called me and asked me to take "Gone Baby Gone" DVD. I was reluctant since this movie was directed by Ben Affleck and almost unknown cast other than Morgon Freeman. But anyway took it and watched. Wow..it was a great movie to watch. Started as a crime movie and ends as an emotional movie. Ben Affleck, rookie[Oops I'm wrong his first movie as director is I Killed My Lesbian Wife, Hung Her on a Meat Hook, and Now I Have a Three-Picture Deal at Disney] director handled this complex subject really good. Some of storyline just similar to Mytic River. Casey Affleck is simply brilliant. The final moment of the movie is really touching and powerful.
