Warrior

I love Warrior stories; warriors are exciting personalities. They get a blessing from their mother's humble state and then within a short amount of time they have to be in war zone aggressive state. I always wondered when I heard some warriors’ stories, how come they switch context from two different states. The context switching is an extraordinary ability, multitasking is something different from context switching. The warriors need some small amount of time to context switching but for us ordinary people we can’t change state as soon as we want to, for example, one of the playoffs Tony Romo QB from Dallas Cowboys asked to hold the ball for a kick, but he screwed up big time. He was a trained QB but suddenly he was asked to hold a ball for the kick. I think this is something context switching. When I was a beginner to code, I had some issues with context switching, for example, I was asked to code Java and then same day other tasks related to SQL and some tasks related to JavaScript. This is first I felt a little uncomfortable but I developed a technique to overcome.

  1. Warriors at least I saw in movies, when they go to mother always in war suit, warriors need this feel because they want to think about war as soon as they wore the suit. So, use the same IDE for all technology. For example, use IntelliJ for Java, JavaScript, SQL development.
  2. Warriors get the blessing from their mother with their blood, they usually use the sword, when we change from emotional states, we need a continuation to the next emotional state. The war is next state hence the drop of the blood is an indication of change state. If we know the next task beforehand with other languages, JavaScript to Java is a little easy than JavaScript to SQL. So, order it based on previous language’s end.
  3. Warriors go to mother’s room alone, as soon as they come out, they are surrendered by soldiers and warriors go to the war zone with a long walk along with soldiers to gain some knowledge. This is very important; we have to take time for context switching from one technology to others and make sure to talk with who is responsible for the new task and new domains. Don’t rush through for new tasks unless it is the same technology and the same domain.
  4. I think there is a reason, why this custom followed by warriors, it will take some time for warriors to go for a full force from full humble to full aggressive. This technique is to give warriors not to use full aggressive force if the enemy is not that strong. This delay allows them to get access to enemy force capacity and their tactics. The same applied to us as well, delay your task a little late and read some articles.

Diversification

What are the benefits living in a diversified society? In any fields diversification is really good and offers more advantages than disadvantages. Here are some usual points about living diversified society.
  • For most we can learn good habits from other culture in diversified society. Each culture has some unique good habits and we can learn it from them. It is a boon for living diversified society.
  • Second most important thing is we can enjoy variety of foods rather than repeated same food from a non-diversified.
  • Learning different languages is other benefit, just try to understand it is good for our brain.
  • Kids will grow with more tolerance since they are expose to various cultures at very young age.

Opinion

After all this information overload age, there is abundance of opinions formed among individuals for almost everything. We are not feared to express it and our opinion reached to our friends and relatives very fast through social media. Is this good or bad? Having an opinion about everything is normally considered good practice but how to handle it as a receiver. All the opinion has value or who is reliable and who is telling truth? Here are some escapes and verify techniques.
  • Always believe owner’s opinion, if we own something and gives our opinions (review) of product that’s always seems to me right. Best place to see this customer reviews from web sites. Majority opinion always wins and very first opinion about the product always seems to me correct
  • Opinion backed up by data and facts always valid. Read articles and measurement reports from measurement/analytic companies like Nielsen, comScore, Wakoopa, and Hitwise.
  • Opinion comes from Opinionated people can be avoidable but listen to them. Who is opinionated people? People who has no respect to other’s opinion are opinionated people.
  • Be confident on your decisions. Whether you are making good decisions or bad decisions just think that you will overcome it. Other’s opinions should not derail your decisions.
  • Measure other opinions. Are they just have opinion or passionate opinion? We can follow passionate opinion people.

Uncontrolled Musing

When I start thinking about future, my mind exploding without control, particularly current events and state of our economy. There is no definite answer to following questions.

  1. Are we at recession or depression or nothing?
  2. Occupywallstreet will become a revolutionary movement or just like tea party, it will also subside?
  3.  President Obama able to win job bill or it will go under water.
  4.  If we are not in recession, what is the status of this market?
  5. What will happen to 401k, IRA and other investments?
  6.  Are we bear market or bull market or pig?
  7. How many more days (months/years) we need to worry about our job?
  8.  When will my home value improves?

The above all are somehow interrelated, a better economy spurs growth which will eliminate all uncertainty. But no one here able to pin point what went wrong and how to fix it. If we know the answer, we could have somehow fixed this mess already. The issues with unable to fix current state of economy are,

Very complicated: This economy structure is complicated than before. Globalization added more complex. No one can predict what is going on in the economy.
Baby Boomers: There are more social welfare created by baby boomers which strains our economy. Politian can’t touch these because fear of losing vote bank
Weak Banks:  Strong economy needs strong banks but now banks are weaker and to make things worse, European banks holds sovereign bonds, those are vulnerable to default.
Aged population: Developed nations are facing more and more aged population, which creates social burden
Other Reasons: Low consumer confidence, deteriorating housing market, high fuel cost, weakness in emerging market etc

What will happen – A radical perspective
So what will happen next, that’s the question pop up everyone’s mind. But most of us and most of the time deep dive into current events to get confused. But I think answer is very clear than we think. We will be like this for some time, 15-20 years.

Japan Model: We are exactly now at the state of Japan model. Since 1980s Japan economy is in very slow growth but it didn’t become depression because some companies did really well. The same thing happening here also, the stocks like Apple, Amazon are doing great in spite of bad market condition. This trend will continue for near future.
Housing market: Price will recover in some places quicker than others, for example, in Midwest some manufacturing activities could spur growth than Sun Belt southern states.
Stock Market: For next decade or so, we can experience some highs and lows of stock market. Stock market will oscillate between highs and lows very often. The conventional wisdom of “Invest in low to make money in high” may be obsolete. The new wisdom is “invest in right companies and forget it”.
Job Market: Job market is something hangs on in middle because cash rich companies have to hire and others also hire because of baby boomer’s retirement. The part time jobs will become big market.

Workalcoholics

Are you a workalcoholic?

If your answer is “no”, most likely you are an anti social because our culture always praise workalcoholism. Why we are over working? First I thought, work giving some satisfaction and it’s linked some form of happiness. Work place regularly praise Workalcoholics, the instant reward makes a surge of happiness.

During this economic meltdown, most of us become workalcoholics, the ever increasing weekly work hours from government report supports that assertion. So workalcoholicism based on fear, i think the instant rewards now become obsolete but still more and more people over working meaning, workalcoholicism is based on fear.

But unfortunately working based on fear will not yield good results. Its again and again proved that free environment provides creative working culture and more productivity. Most of workalocoholics think of more work hence they won’t think finishing work 100% but open for more work.

How to avoid become workalocoholicsim?
  1.  Unknown leads to fear, fear leads to stress, stress leads to over work, at same time it increases health risks. So always be with knowns. What you good with, be with it.
  2. Update with latest improvements. The more you know about latest technology, news, less you worry about current job. This stops fear and over work.
  3. Life is meaningful without work also. Most of millionaires are not over worked; they are creative and self employed.
  4. Prioritize and prepare. Do some homework. 1 hour of homework will eliminate 3 hours of real work if we plan and prepare for it.
  5. Don’t think more you work you get more raise and bonus.

Façade

I usually drive by the million dollar home daily twice. One of the kind façade and fantastic architecture, and flawless house. Yesterday when as usual I drive by, they were painting their mail box which was looking great to me though. I started wondering why they are obsessed with façade, why they want to perfect on everything. I thought I was right, because we are spending too much resource for façades and other unimportant things in our life for me those are show off. After some time, I started realized that those are needed to show our hard work, dedication, commitment and determination rather than show off wealth.

Life is not to live as we wanted to live but there should be some meaning. We want to show others that we are capable of doing something, doing something unique. It is completely opposite to liberal point of view of everyone is equal. But at same time, most of us not ready to take that part of wisdom, so jump into conclusion based on façade. In order to satisfy all, giving importance to façade is not just show off.

So a beautiful façade with a weak backyard is okay? But that depends on whom we ask, but conventional wisdom is “Internal beauty can be visible through façade”.

Inspiration and desperation

We inspire with others, we follow, and we prosper together. But after sometime the trailblazer stops blazing, what to do now? Desperation or continue our journey. Most of the time people stop doing what they did by inspiring others. I spent quite some time but none were discussed about this topic.

For example, U.S.A is leader of world, they led all war and other’s followed and fought with them. Now in Libya, U.S.A due to internal pressure not leading and war against Gaddafi stalled. The leader stopped leading others and all are collapsed or not effective as before. Why this is happening? How to avoid it?

1.       Don’t abuse leaders: When leaders leading something, don’t take everything grated rather use the opportunity to learn and document it.

2.       Document all the advice: When leaders giving advice when they are leading those are not just advice, those are insights and priceless piece of wisdom and document it.

3.       Don’t question leaders: Leaders say something with in context always, don’t ask question and don’t ignore those. All are very effective because leaders won’t talk for talking.

4.       No middle ground: If we inspire with others, we have to align with leaders all the time. There is no middle ground. The actions which are taken by leaders should be committed. If we follow leader without committed we can’t repeat it when leaders not present.

Actually once we start following leaders, we have to become that leader after some point of time. Leadership main objective is creating as many as leaders.

How to live Happy?

1. Nothing is constant. Be prepared for changes. One day driving Benz car may not be same next day, we may have to drive bi cycle. Life is full of changes.

2. Don’t try to change others unless they are willing to go through transforms which is very rare.

3. Don’t say what ever we think through our mind. There is always some polish needed for good personal relationship.

4. Plan it, invest it, make money work for you, not that you work for money

5. Daily read some spiritual books or tell mantra.Keep your brain clean from negative thoughts.

6. Be honest with everyone, if can’t, if we have to tell lies then that’s sign of withdraw from that entity.

7. Don’t afraid of destroying some. I mean liquidate somethings.

8. Tell good things about others, may some extra also fine.

9. Keep time, bond with it, time will give you health and wealth.

10. Last but not the least, always smile even when we are in dire situation.

Negativity & English

We witnessed Team India's classic way of losing a Cricket game against modest form but talented Cricket team yesterday. One point of time, we were looking so good to win the game but next moment we weren’t. Historically if we take most of Indian Cricket lost, 90% of time (hypothetically speaking) team possessed greater chance of winning at some point of game but still managed to lose.

Why we are suddenly become negativity?
Why we are losing even though all are pointing to right direction?
Why we are still stuck with service industry but not booming in technology?
Why we can’t think positive always, if positive why we think negative next moment?

I’m thinking about it ever since I can think but the answer still elusive, but based on my opinion, the way we acquired English language from British contributing most of our Negative thinking.

My conclusion is,
When British colonized India they carefully spread negative words, in many cases, they want to look better than their peer Indians hence they used lot of negative words which become custom in Indian English language.

Passion vs. Addiction
I never ever heard the word ‘passion’ from Indian English language.  If one is very much into something not socially acceptable then we labeled them addicted NOT passionate. Just imagine, passion is something positive, encouraging but addiction is something negative which make the target thinking negatively.

Determination vs. Adamant
Something like Passion, determination is not a common word in Indian English but we substitute wrongly adamant. But determination is a very positive word but adamant created a negative feeling.

I can go on and on, but matter of fact is, people who ever speaks pure form of their mother tongue  used very less negative words, they naturally very positive people. But who speaks mixed form of language (50-50 English and mother language) are the one tilt to negative.  I’m here pointing out why we become negative when we are absolute positive not the trait of positive and negative person.

Jack in the box

“You are lacking out of the box thinking?”, the statement very common in our white collar profession. The statement mostly used when politicized situation or performance review. Actually what exactly is “out of the box thinking”, as per Wikipedia

“Thinking outside the box is to think differently, unconventionally or from a new perspective. This phrase often refers to novel or creative thinking.”

There are several engineers, developers’ gets this feedback regularly but honestly they don’t know what exactly the reviewer meant. Based on my opinion, “out of the box thinking” is something innate ability or one has to go through elite schooling to get that, so who ever lucky to born with that are the best? I think there is something wrong with this notion, we are pushing people who are not really lacking “out of the box”. But there is something they are missing too. What is that? I think the answer is, most of them are “above average but narrow minded”. Narrow minded is not a bad thing; it is just a trait which can be easily changed.

Even a law written by several top-notch lawmakers and reviewed by several pundits, we have loop holes here and there. So are they missing “out of the box thinking”? I don’t think so, law should cover all possible permutation and combination but most of the law lacking this, which is, mainly because some “narrow minded” compromise and some "narrow minded" people genuinely missing to see some big picture. The same applies to software development also, developers miss to big picture due to narrow minded not because “out of the box thinking”. What we need is training to change that character not unnecessary overloaded labels which are unable to change.

Above & Beyond

Last decade’s most successful NFL organization is without a doubt New England Patriots (Pats). Even though their Super Star is Tom Brady, but Gem of New England Patriots team is Kevin Faulk. First of all, why he is called Gem of Pats?

1.    Loyal to his team, 11 years with Pats.
2.    3,550 rushing yard.
3.    16 rushing TD
4.    424 receiving and 3,667 receiving yard.
5.    Receiving TD 15

Based on his statistics, one can easily jump into conclusion that he is all-round player; hence he is qualified for Gem of Pats title. But the truth is different, Kevin started his career as Running Back, he was an excellent running back. During his tenure with Pats, over a period of time, his coach asked him to do other jobs also like full back, punt return. Those are not glamorous position in NFL, but Kevin took those jobs without any hesitant rather than quit to join other team as Running Back, which made him a Gem of his team with his astonishing all round performance.

Kevin’s success story makes me think something else which is very important to our changing world and lifestyle. Now we are living in a flat world where the luxury of doing one task per one human is gone. We can’t say “my job description is XYZ and you are asking me to do ABC”. The tasks outside of job description also have to be done as long as we can do it with or without some self-learning.

There is nothing wrong that a developer tests an application, a architect helps developing some small piece of code, a manager runs some test scripts, a QA engineer debugging a code, a store manager checkout customer while sales clerk out for an emergency.

Advice – It’s all free

If advice is a commodity then it is mostly freely available/exchange commodity in this world. We are all ready to give advice to others about many things. In fact, based my unscientific research, 70-75% of our communication is advice but without advice one can’t reach our goals also. Because most of us inspire with someone who are capable or scholar and their advice are sermon to us. But the point is what to take, what to ignore are real challenge.

Advice from following topic from unprofessional can be ignored straight-out.

1.     Medical: This is no brainer, whenever we seek advice from a group of people, say 10 people; we would get 10 different advices from 10 different people.

2.     Investment: We all know about this, we had bitter experience again and again but we need to follow advice as is from professional or let them handle our finance. Most of us burnt our money because of half-cooked professional advice.

3.     Office politics: We should not take other’s advice anything related to workplace politics. Because workplace politics are very unique and no one in a position to determine what exactly happening inside a private organization, hence outsiders can’t fathom exactly what is happening to us, to make a judgment or advise us for better.

4.     Kid’s Education: This is also similar to Medical, 10 people gives 10 different advice. But we should about our kids and we have to make plan or assist them to choose their future.

5.     Time Management: We all have our unique way of doing our day by day activity hence we should not take other’s advice what to do what when how etc. We have to use our instinct to perform our activity.

6.     Shopping: Each one has their own opinion about what to buy where to buy and when to buy. Getting advice won’t help much. There are some instance where i bought some stuff based on my wife's advice but later on i wasn’t satisfied with it but i couldn’t throw it away because she might feel bad and i couldn’t use it because i didn’t like it.

7.     Web sites: There are one trillion web sites are there now. Each of us comfortable with some, taking advice which one is good and what to read are not good.

Bottom Line
Any advice from spouse, parents, siblings, close friends, and well wishers (personal level) peers and supervisor (professional level) are considerable. We have to make fair judgment based on their advice, all others can be carefully consider if we are not sure about it, ignore it.

Cheer up

As soon as we are into New Year 2011, we are all some kind of jubilant mood and after some time it fade away. It is very natural but based on my research New Year is the one which creates lot of enthusiasm but won’t keep up. One of main reason is, weather wise January is dull month and most depressive day of the year falls on January 25th that is exactly a month after Christmas, to add salt, all credit card bill start arriving on around last week of January which has most of our Christmas gift shopping.

As a blogger my job is to encourage all of you to keep up your new year resolutions and cheer up during these depressive days.

Here are some tips.

  1. Normal people set 1 or 2 goals and try to achieve at least 80-90% of end result. So don’t set some aggressive goals.
  2. The average times before people to quit smoking are 9. So believe me, if you couldn’t keep up resolution please don’t depress try again and again.
  3. Do most of fun activity during first months of a year. For example, i started blogging regularly from a January month which was very relaxing moments to forget weather and mind concentrated on one activity, now i’m helping my son to complete his Star wars Complete saga Xbox game, again believe me his yelling at me when i screwed up anything is really fun.
  4.  Plan for spring and summer during January and February. Whenever i say plan that doesn’t mean that step by step project plan kind of thing. All we need is, if our resolution is weight less, and then read about bicycle, trails information’s,explore groups and get a complete picture of bicycling.
  5. Resolutions are not made for New Year’s only. We can set resolutions any time of the year like birthdays, father day and anniversary etc.
  6. Resolutions aren't final either, modify/add based on our own choices.
  7. If your resolution is related to money/saving, then please use good money management software or use your bank’s online services.
  8. Donate money to charity or volunteer during these initial months A) this time of year elderly and poor people need more help B) the satisfaction from that keep on us to roll this entire year.

Happy New Year 2011

2011 will be one of splendid year for all of us for sure. There is no way that we are going to see downward in this New Year. All set for growth and more growth all over the world. For me personally I don’t have any specific resolutions to set for 2011, part of the reason is, my current lifestyle drives (force) me to do certain things, which are, anyway my area of improvement.
  1. Since I and wife both are working same Chicago Downtown area, we are spending more quality time in commute. No need to set time for one on one.
  2. Due to the same busy schedule, time management is now precisely to seconds because if I start from home 7Hr 22mm 30ss I can beat the 3mins wait left signal to Rt 59.
  3. Almost daily swimming routine with my 7yrs old gives me the much needed refreshment and great satisfaction that I’m teaching something good to my son.
  4. Write at least 1 blog per week. I have to adjust time to write more blogs on this New Year.
2010 Flashback
  1. Visited Orlando for almost 10 days, had lot of fun with family.
  2. More time with family.
  3. 22 blogs and 2000+ twitters (most of it articles/news etc.)
Happy New Year 2011 to all….

How much is too much/too much is how much

Most of times, I want a stop clock kind of tool to measure all of my activities and notify me to stop because it is too much. But in reality we can’t have that kind of clock. We are living like racing imagery highway where everyone tries to beat others to win the race. So we don’t know when to apply brake or hit speed bump. In a perfect world, we want to live with our family quietly. But again reality, we can’t do it, even we are perfectly fine, there are several elements makes our life jeopardy and again we have to hit the racing highway.

Sometimes we think that, we have all but sometimes we reverse that thought. I always wonder why the same thought process which gave us the real satisfaction of life now reversing. Why and when this can happen? Based on many researches, our brain is excellent auto pilot but why it is not setting a persistent satisfaction with our life, with our current progress, with the way we are now.

There are several elements possibly making us to urge for more and more, one of the main is numbers and comparison. I think when we convert our net of anything to numbers, we reverse our thoughts of satisfaction. But that is very obvious reason. The entire world revolving based on numbers, from the country’s GDP to Stock per earning to College tuition everything is based on numbers. If you have larger number, you are good off, you can go to great school etc. In other words, we are all perfectionist when we deal with numbers but most of us won’t admit it or they don’t realize it.

But now I’m coming to the main part of my blog, yes number is everything but there is something more for our success and our greater satisfaction, which is our ethics. My point is who ever behind a number may not possibly finish it with greater satisfaction because number is infinity but whoever has ethics may finish it with modest number and greater satisfaction. Actually ethics are joke in some culture where there common wisdom is if you follow those, you are screwed. But the point is, due to mammoth competition one may not even succeed if they are ethics in those cultures also. But as usual I strongly disagree with that wisdom, because several successful people, they are strictly following ethics with some exceptions which are unavoidable for sometimes.

Here are some reasons why I believe most of us not ethics as others,

Strong opinions: We are all opinionated but some of us forms stronger than others. As a result, sometimes strong opinionated forms an opinion that following ethics not good for success.

Mistrust Others: Due to the strong opinions, we used to mistrust others including people who following ethics. We used to form some negativity towards success/rich people hence their ethics shadowed by those negativity. For example, Steve Job’s ethics may be shadowed by his business demeanor.

Karma: We all do mistakes in our life. It doesn’t matter that we went some wrong way during our life, all matter is can we come back and following ethics again. But most of used to treat others unethical or take comfort to not be ethical just because someone did something in past.

Going with flow: One of great and easy way of surviving technique is going with flow. However going with flow sometimes take us to deep fall. Going with flow with ethics on a peace calm river makes lot of sense rather than going with flow on a rocky unethical wildriver.

Hypocrite Case: Due to the information overload era, we can label any one as hypocrite based on any thing. For example, how many of us inspiring with Bill Gates philanthropy work because we easily labeled him monopoly and how many us inspiring with any who are breaching ethics nowadays, we used to google, turn wikipedia to find out a point against him/her to comfort ourself that we are doing right all others are hypocrite.Just think about it.

Please read my previous post regarding this http://ibloggergeek.blogspot.com/2010/05/ethics-my-002.html

Baby On Board

Most of us, when we expecting our baby, one of the main shopping is “Baby on Board” sign and we stick it before we first time on board our new born. This is different than our other bummer sticker, those are for express our Patriotism, Sports Affiliation,Religious and Our Son's/Daughter's honor announcement. I was wondered earlier why we have to announce everyone that “Baby On Board”, which is different than others, I presumed couple of reasons, essentially for child safety.
  1. Giving an extra alertness to other drivers especially who behind us.
  2. Announcing other drivers that the car might be slower than speed limit.
But I was wrong, the main purpose of “Baby on Board” is as follows

“alert the emergency services to the presence of an infant in the event of a crash small children are known to sometimes become trapped in foot-wells or even thrown from the vehicle in the event of crashes”

“Baby on Board” is not an announcement to other drivers to slow down or stay away from us, it's for future unfortunate event, when it occur, it would notify emergency personal to look for baby. Most of new born parents used to stick it on their car. This is very basic psychology, everyone living peace of mind after they conform and insured every piece of their belonging and health and wealth. The logic is, some bad event can happen to all, if it happen, be ready, be prepared to face it, rather than living under fear of death.

But this is great contradiction with Karma based society where everyone thinks nothing bad can happen to them because they didn't commit any bad to others in this life as well as previous life. Even though it was proved again and again wrong, there are some mindset still set like they are god. Here are some things to consider before deny it.

  1. This world has changed lot since they write all religious books. For example, h1n1 were not there when they wrote it.
  2. New variety of cars on road, thanks to inflation, now 80% of people owns high power cars.
  3. Pollution unbelievably high, even scientists unable to understand what kind of virus mutates daily.
  4. Change of lifestyle and genetically modified food grains are increasing high risk of cancer.

Tons of Fish or Few Liberals

Finding commonalities among two different groups/country/state people is an interesting theory forming. For example, I try to find commonalities for some Indians (mainly from Mumbai) with Americans (mainly from New York). Here are my reasoning’s to relate,
  1. Both them are financial capital of respective countries. So Mumbaikars and New Yorkers has some pride about themselves.
  2. Highly populated with brilliant metro systems. So both of them are organized.
  3. Geographically both of the cities built on bay. So both of them are beach lovers.
All those reasoning become invalid after i visited San Francisco or Boston. Because those are common stereotypes of metro cities, there is nothing special relation between Mumbai and New York. But 10 years ago I only knew about Mumbai and New York’s lifestyle since i formed the wrong perception.I had a thought of relate people of Kerala and West Bengal, two different states in India, different culture, different language and both of them are thousand miles apart but visible relations are,
  1. Obsession with communists, discussing about Marxist and other variance of communists  are common which is very uncommon in other parts of India.
  2. Love soccer (Indians normally thinks Cricket is only sports in this planet) and excellent team players.
  3. More fascinating relation is, both of them produced more number of poets, intellects, artists, painters, movie directors, musicians, philosophers than any other state in India. I know it is just a sweeping generalizing statement but as per “comparable theory” it is valid.
As usual i formed a theory that they love fish and fish is good food for brain since they are good literature etc.But I’m wrong again, because Kerala Brahmins won’t eat fish. Actually it is not fish or any food habits, it is the liberals who influenced Kerala and West Bengal are the reason for some relation.

In Indian context of liberals are “who fight against rigid religious practices, promote education and work towards better social economic conditions”.

Raja Ram Mohan Roy (Bengal) :
Born on 1774 and he was one of trailblazer liberal of Indian history, he started a movement called Bramo Shaba and he influenced thoughts and minds of Bengal people. He founded a solid platform for free thinking, education and many reforms in religious front. More info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raja_Ram_Mohan_Roy

Travancore Kings (Kerala) :
One of highly liberal kings are the Travancore(which was part of majority Kerala now). More info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Travancore

Conclusion:
We can reasonably conclude that chain of liberal thinkers from Bengal and Kerala are the reason for some commonalities between this culturally distinct peoples. There are many of them were in other states but they didn't influenced that much as compare with Raja Ram Mohan Roy and his followers and Travancore Kings.

Independence Day

I’m getting excited when ever India (or any other country) celebrates Independence day because i do care about individual freedom, freedom of thoughts and freedom of everything. I started writing this blog with in my mind to compare India 1947 to India 2010. But I'm not going to do it because India grown mammoth levels in many fronts, comparing with olden times gives us frisson and repletion. When my generation(current leading generation) were kids, studying in school we didn’t imagined this much growth, that giving me nervous about how we(current generation) going to handle this unexpected or unprepared growth of India.

Indian constitution was designed to bring every one in to main stream, in other words equality and education to all and social justice, very basic socialism point of view. As far i know, the spirit of Indian constitution is not supported or instrumented for India’s growth which we are enjoying last decade. Now we need to connect the dots, that is one side an ignorant generation and other side poorly written constitution(in terms of growth). Due to this disconnect, India is facing a big time probity issue now.It is not a big issue, first of all, we need to point out, what are the impacts and reasoning of this disconnect.

Rich is getting richer and poor is getting poorer
This is global phenomena but severity of India's domain is unacceptable level. The fundamental issue, as always we don't know how to transform success of one place to other. For example, Mumbai was considered business vibrant  city even before current growth but we don't know how-to implement those success to other parts of India in a big bang scalable model. Now this generation also just following the old style model of "static localized growth". City is the only one have to grow all others are considered second class places, the mentality will backfire us sooner than later.

Lack of social thinking
As i said, we were raised to get to find and fill up food for me and my family. I don't think it was not a wrong thought process because the state of India was like that. Feeding a large family with 3 times (some) quality food and other emergency expenses are very tough. But now situation changed, we should think about others and help others. Actually when ever i say help others, people thinks that we have to send money to poor people but my point is, giving money is not a big help. What we need is educate them about their rights, right to ask information, right to ask education, right to ask government/other NGO,. All the basic rights and how-to are really important than giving them some money which eventually spend for some wrong reasons also. This generation should change their thought process of living in the old post British India days to the current new India.

Less Emotional More Logical
Since we saw the two faces of India and as i mentioned in first para, we tend to replete with our success. We try to become emotional and stop thinking about future growth. But just come out of your city or towns and visit some places just 100KM outside of your city, you can realize that how small we are and we are just starting this journey of  growth and still a long way to go. Never rest and never think that we are done, we are still $1 trillion economy.

Happy Independence Day.

De|Bug|er

We are living some where in starting to mid-point of technology revolution, still a long way to reach ‘apogee’. But the effect of technology is enormous, from fast food ordering system to NASA Space Shuttle orbiter maneuvering controlled by technology.Every-where and  every-one depends on technology in one way or other. Just look back a decade ago, the nightmare we faced during Y2K era, we were thought world going to be standstill. But thanks to ‘Sang-Froid Debuggers’ emerges from various part of world to make our life easy by providing timely solutions.

Whether we like it or not, since technology is immature, no bible like guide to develop code, no process (if we have one, people tend to hide behind it) the systems we develop comes with some risks. One of the main risk involves are A)Manual intervention to avoid some possible bugs B)code issues hence system acting weird when some conditions met.

The risk (A) can be mitigated easily but what about (B), to make things worse, most of time the system’s knowledge base may not even exist when some bugs appears. In my experience, there were some bugs took 12-18 months to fix it,of course from very legacy code. But i think we have to do somethings creatively to decrease process time.

Here are some steps to become Sang-Froid Debuggers(assume new developer on a old legacy system without any knowledge base around)

1. Code Psychology :
One of the most and foremost way of finding and fixing is, understanding developer’s psychology in terms of how s/he writes code,his/her thinking pattern and his/her deviation from “standard” way. The best of doing it is by reading code from left to right, for software developers reading code is most productive than documents.

2. Team Enthusiasm :
Next level to become ‘Sang-Froid Debuggers’ is understanding teams enthusiasm,of course we may not know until we found some design documents or some real time stories from current co-workers. First of all what i mean by team enthusiasm, (please read 2 nd para first 2-3 lines) due to that each team try to develop system different ways. Some of them very enthusiast towards open source. If that's the case, try to understand, how tightly the system integrated with open source components and start documenting each one’s known issues. Based on my experience, most of the “late hard to fix bugs” were from open source components, mainly we don’t know how to use it.

3. Raising Flags
We all want to fix bugs which are assigned to us by only us but sometimes we need help from others. It is better to ask help from others whenever we needed. I knew some horror stories like one guy took 3 months to troubleshoot an issue, he couldn’t but the other guy did it with in 3 hours. It was not because the first guy was bad, second guy experienced the same or similar issue elsewhere.

4. Early detection and prevention
If we did better work on points 1 and 2, smart developers can sense the system vulnerabilities, start documenting it and start enlighten others.Start some brainstorming for prevention of unwanted bugs from legacy system.

State of Mind

I’m very interested to explore how our brain works. Actually it was all started because i wanted to learn more about me. At the end of day, as many other mediocre mind,i too failed. No one knows what we capable of do and wants to become. The main reason for this stagnant is our state of mind. Our brain is excellent auto-pilot and once some state is set, there is very slim chance to recover from it. Here are some points to prove it.

1. A couple came from India to visit U.S.A,mainly to spent time with their grandson who was 1 year old. They used to tell him “you have to study well, you have to go foreign countries like U.S.A to make lot of money”. Actually India most of grandparents used to tell this to their grandchildren as a soap box. But the context is here(U.S.A) but their State of Mind still not changed.

2. There are more and more research suggest that the state of mind of a debt collectors are some kind of addiction. They want to chase people left and right to collect money even though people say that they have only money to feed kids. After they quit also, most of ex debt collectors continue some jobs which requires some overpower towards to other human or they bully around home with family. The state of mind fixed and hard to overcome with it.

3. It was proven again and again that women wants to get pregnant after middle age, it is very genetically fixed state of mind. At the olden days, the chances for kids dying at young age, lets say less than 15 was higher than now. Since this happen centuries after centuries, the brain of all women’s urge to get pregnant after middle age, just to have a kid after the elder one crosses 10 or so.

It was proven all ways that once mind is set then it is hard to come out. But even though the state of mind is set, how to overcome it?

1. Every thing has a destination and source point. When try to reach a destination, just use to think about destination and forget about source. For example, when i travel from my college to my home town, i just visualize about my home town to forget about my college. Once I reach my home town my state of mind complete to enjoy at my home town.Even my unconscious mind ignores college routines like late morning breakfast etc.

2. The most important thing of our life is how to separate our personal life and professional life. Actually it is not that easy to separate both because of current culture and job security. But we need to do at any cost. Just imagine we are like wearing invisible coat when we work and remove it as soon as we walk out from work place. Most of state of mind fixed based on where and what we work to pay bills and for happy life. But if we don’t know how to separate those two then we are just paying bills but not real happiness.

3. Surviving recession is hard that to, the current one is prolong and tough. Most of the state of mind set to fear. Once we our brain set to fear mode, it is hard to overcome. Instead of simply fearing and set our state of mind as negative energy, just learn how this economy's cycle works, what are the options available to survive at this hard time, and upgrade our-self to next level by learning new skills. This is really important.
